Building Bridges

What if repairing all relationships was a top priority?

Matthew 5:23-24

“Therefore, if you bring your gift to the altar, and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there at the altar, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift.”

Notice how Jesus lays the responsibility for making amends with someone who is angry at you…on you.

Being in right relationship seems to be generally more important to Jesus than being right.

If we’re honest with ourselves, being right is almost always an ego thing. Jesus makes it clear that a right relationship with God also depends on a right relationship with others.

We are all part of one body.

If we want our relationship with God to be a good one…then we have to make sure that our relationships with family, friends, strangers and all of creation…are okay too.

And how about our relationships with the people we dislike? How are those going?

Remember, Jesus said we must love our enemies (Matthew 5:44)!

Each of us needs to ask ourselves: How can I change so that all may be one?
